The two most important things a startup founder must do:
- Write well
- Speak well
If you are unable to do these two things, you are also unable to:
- Persuade early adopters to buy
- Convince investors to take a chance on you
- Create strategic partnerships
You are unable to tell your story.
Your story is what makes your startup worth anyone’s time — including your own. It’s the reason why people should pay attention to you, buy from you, invest in you, listen to you, become loyal to you.
Your story is everything.
Sure you can hire a marketing team, a copywriter, a communications coach, but at the end of the day todays consumer wants an authentic story from you.
Check out Johnny Earle’s (better known as Johnny CupCakes) story for a great example. Maybe he didn’t write this web copy out himself (and maybe he did), but he’s frequently out and about speaking with his customers, and blogging away, and you should be too.
Write well. Speak well. Be authentic.
