The significance of human resources in today’s world needs an emphasis. Most small firms show very little concern for human resources. If we look closely, it won’t take much time to understand that people play a key role in company growth. I believe the small business‘s neglect towards human resources is solely due to a lack of knowledge regarding the actual definition of human resources and the value a modern human resources department represents to any organization. At one point Google was just a small company in someone’s garage, yet today they are known for building a technology empire and having one of the best human resources departments in the world. The definition of human resources can make every organization realize the true impact of people on a company’s long-term success.
Modern Human Resources is defined as the strategic leveraging of information technology, quality, leadership and employee knowledge, skills and abilities to consistently achieve the mission of the company and get one step closer to achieving the vision of the company everyday.
Gaining competitive advantages through performance management, quality and technology are the main focus of modern human resources. Modern HR Managers use technology resources like HRIS performance management modules, MIS, SAP ERP, Peoplesoft, Sage and Business Intelligence to drive company performance, reduce costs, innovate, improve quality and increase productivity. They view people as the company’s greatest asset. It’s not uncommon for HR to be leaders in innovation, Six Sigma, customer service, business strategy and change management. Aside from the stereotype, modern HR leaders are not usually social butterflies or people with wet shoulders to cry on; they are strategic thought leaders, innovators and organization problem solvers that add millions to the bottom line each year by linking the organization’s success to the success of the individual employee. Paperwork is a thing of the past.
